About the Class
This course will teach techniques for creating, honing and performing original standup comedy material. Students will learn the tools of the trade, writing prompts for harvesting source material, exercises for creating and testing punchlines, how to create a standup set that meets time requirements, how to effectively deliver their material in a live setting and how to review and evaluate previous performances.
Week 1 - Tools of the trade, harvesting source material, writing prompts and proving source material through effective punchlines.
Week 2 - Writing from rants, writing setups based on the punchline, tags, act outs and callbacks.
Week 3 - Live performance techniques, style, crowd work and reading the audience.
Week 4 - Standup class showcase, playback analysis, honing and finding the right open mic for you.
There are no prerequisites for this class.
**All Adult classes 18 and over unless otherwise specified.
