About the Class

This class will introduce brand new actors to the varying elements of our craft and business and prepare them for On Camera Basics.

What are you going to learn?

History of acting

  • What is it and where did modern acting emanate from?
  • Theater vs Film/TV
  • Terminology: technique, intention, objective, beats, emotional life, moment before, etc.
  • Basic questions an actor needs to ask: Who, What, Where, When, Why
  • Creating the world, back story, environment, etc

Various Techniques

  • Stanislavski
  • Techniques derived from Stanislavski: Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Meisner

Film/TV in the Southeast

  • Terminology for film/tv: marks, eyelines, sides, character breakdown, etc.
  • Agents – what so they do?
  • Casting – what is the process?
  • How the business operates: LA/NY and why productions are in GA
    Student films/shorts
  • SAG-AFTRA

Auditioning

  • What is required?
  • Actor’s Access – what is it and how does it work?
  • Self Submission
  • Audition reality vs reality (no props, awareness of eyelines)
  • Callbacks – Zoom vs “in the room”
